If you spit or urinate in the open now, you have to cough up Rs 250 as the Lucknow Municipal Corporation on Thursday launched an anti-spitting drive that will continue till March 1.
On the first day of the 'Thookna Mana Hai' campaign, Rs 16,050 was collected as fine from more than 60 violators.
Municipal Commissioner Inderjit Singh said, "There is a drive under Swachh Bharat Mission to preserve the beautification work done under G20 in Lucknow. Zero tolerance is ensured against spitting, littering and urinating in public places."
LMC officials along with police were manning the road at Basmandi Crossing, Charbagh and Husariya circle. They kept watch at these places and caught people spitting, urinating or defecating in the open. The officials also fined them under the Uttar Pradesh Waste (Management Operation and Sanitation) Rules 2021.
"The two trespassers at Husariya Crossing were given the title of 'Mr or Mrs/Mrs Piku'. They were garlanded and asked not to repeat the mistake," Singh said, adding that the police, NGOs and local residents were helping them drive.
